Importing cigars into North Cyprus: a general overview
A general outline of the steps usually involved. Rules change, so always confirm the current position with the competent authorities.
Important: this page is general information only. It is not legal, customs or tax advice and it does not state any duty rate. For local rules, consult the competent authorities in North Cyprus and a licensed customs broker.
Typical steps
- Check eligibility and permissions. Tobacco products are regulated. Confirm with the competent authorities which licences or registrations an importer needs.
- Select the supplier and product. Obtain product details, origin information and a commercial invoice.
- Check labelling. Health warnings and packaging requirements apply to tobacco products and differ by market.
- Arrange transport. Cigars are sensitive to heat and dryness, so choose transport and handling that protect condition.
- Customs clearance. Goods are declared to customs, commonly through an authorised customs broker, and applicable duties and taxes are assessed under local rules.
- Storage on arrival. Move stock promptly into controlled humidity and temperature. See our storage guide.
Duty free is different
Goods for duty free and travel retail are normally handled under separate arrangements from goods released for the domestic market. Confirm the applicable procedure with the operator and the authorities.
Working with a local distributor
Many brands choose to work with an established distributor. NWU Trading Ltd. imports and distributes premium cigars from Kyrenia, North Cyprus, to the trade. See our brands or send a trade enquiry. Adults of legal smoking age only; no online sales.
